Boys and school

Boys tend to favor mathematics while girls are more into language. It has been proven that language is the subject that is most essential to academic success. Poor reading performance has a significant effect on performance in other subjects. A lot of boys don't value school, they find that school work is boring, repetitive and irrelevant. In order for boys to have more academic success, as teachers we have to change our strategies so that they can be more engage. Two such strategies that I think that will have a positive impact on their learning are:

1. Learning has to be more activity oriented than pen and paper.
2. Teachers have to integrate technology within their teaching and encourage students to create audio books, e books and websites .

This would hold their attention longer and students would be able to see the effects of technology and its uses in the real world.

  1. I feel that this whole argument that 'boys do not like school', 'boys find school boring' a bit of an empty argument.I do feel that boys learn differently but what about the girls that are kinesthetic/tactile learners. I am assuming this is the description we give to boys.
I feel we need to include technology into our teaching not only to address this apparent issue plaguing boys but to deal with struggling readers on a whole.
I am sorry but somehow the results form my school do not show that girls achieve higher marks than girls but then too are we taking all the factors(environment, home, etc.) into consideration.
