"Ensure all stakeholders possess the critical requisite skills and competencies to use ICT in the education system as a tool to enhance learning and teaching , communication and research, and to generate innovative processes"(MOE, pp.12)12.
The Ministry of Education is making sure that as teachers we are preparing for the future. The traditional way of teaching is insufficient for our student's success. Imagine some of our students are more technologically advance than the teachers. I believe thats why Ministry of Education is offering ICT courses to make sure that teachers possess the skills to become more effective in the classroom.
Hi Mrs. Brown,
ReplyDeleteThe MOE wants teachers to be more effective in the classroom and while training teachers in ICT courses has its benefits, there are schools without computers.
I agree that many of our students are more technologically advance than the teacher. Hence ,the opportunity is there for teacher and student to work together.
Teachers who are proficient with technology states that
*classrooms are more student centred
*computer has impacted on student inquiry based analytical and problem skills.
I agree with the views stated by Cooper,J.,(2006). He said,"It is not technology that creates educational improvement. Educational improvement comes through coherent instruction and assessment that supports high quality student learning." (pg. 186).
We as educators must recognise that the challenge is in using the technology to support teaching and learning.

There is always a huge gap between what the MOE wants and what the MOE does, between policy and implementation of those policies. The new Minister of Education also made that observation when he assumed duties on May 25th. He said that there are programmes and policies and studies "collecting dust" om shelves in the Ministry and nobody is doing anything. I sincerely hope that the plan to improve literacy among adolescents by training Reading Specialists, is actually developed. I hope when we have gotten our training we return to our schools as practicing Reading Specialist and not have to wait for years to overcome some bureaucratic ratification
ReplyDeleteTechnology is the quintessential benchmark of our time. Whether we embrace the technology or not, life goes on becoming more and more automated and if we are not careful we might find ourselves out of sync with everyday activities. Imagine at my bank you no longer have to fill out deposit or withdrawal slips. You just have to provide the PIN. Yes. The machines are taking over,so we have to become empowered to control them by accepting the training.
ReplyDeleteI was stymied by even the basic technology at school. Now I see how necessary it is for me to work smart with the technology and not necessarily hard without it and I can still be dedicated. Whatever happens, this training empowers us as educators, parents, spouses and eventually digital citizens. Let's embrace it!
